Nick Stanifer

A prolific musician with a multi-faceted approach, Nick Stanifer shares his talents and time with multiple projects - solo project Jang, and bands Order of the Golden Mirror and THETANS. First recording on his own on a Tascam 4-track making tape-long soundscapes, Nick never wrote a song during his first two years of serious music making, using improv and sound warping and stretching to first and foremost have fun. As a kid, influenced by Michael Jackson, aliens, late 80s MTV, and Sea World records, Nick shifted his musical influences over time through personal experience in recording and musicianship to his current favorites Magma, Os Mutantes, Yoshida Tatsuya, Les Baxter, Sun Ra, and Italian composer and conductor Ennio Morricone.
Stanifer’s project Order of the Golden Mirror won the UC Davis Searchlight Award in 2009, and were nominated for a Sammie in the experimental category the same year. He is an astrologer and this has a large impact on his work. Nicks future holds compositional music and concept works, such as a trilogy of collaborative albums inspired by 3 seperate landscapes (The Desert, The Jungle, and The Arctic) , and a Codex project involving a synesthesia of art and music into book/disc form.
